Best Gaming Peripherals for the 2020 Holidays

As 2020 is finally wrapping up it’s time to look at Alacrity’s favorite gaming peripherals. There is an endless sea of gadgets for the never ending money pit we call PC gaming. Arguably the most important peripherals for your system that we have listed are the mouse, keyboard and headset.

There are countless peripherals on the market and some may have more features than what is on our list. The price for the quality, features and performance of each product were our main factors when determining this list.

The devices we chose have all been used and tested by members of our staff and are highly recommended. We narrowed things down to a few high end and budget products for enthusiasts and average consumers alike.

Stay tuned for a more detailed review for each of these categories in the coming weeks.

Buying Guide Overview

High-End Gaming Mice:

Glorious Gaming Model O Wireless

Key Features:

  • Connection: 2.4 Ghz Wireless
  • BAMF Sensor
  • DPI: 400-19,000
  • Battery Life: 72 hrs
  • Weight: 69g
  • Buttons: 6
  • Ambidextrous Design
  • Smooth G-Skates Feet
  • Flexible Paracord-like Cable
  • Ultralightweight Design

Ultra lightweight mice are a growing trend in competitive gaming communities, especially for first person shooters. The Model O is one of the lightest gaming mice on the market coming in at only 69 grams. Glorious Gaming also claims to have created the lowest wireless click latency of 2.08ms and a longer battery life than other top tier wireless mice.

In terms of ergonomics you likely won’t find someone complaining about comfort due to its ambidextrous design fit for any type of mouse holding grip.

They could have easily charged over $100 for this product, like their competitors, making this quality to price ratio unparalleled.

Logitech - G PRO Wireless Optical Gaming Mouse

Key Features:

  • Connection: LIGHTSPEED Wireless
  • HERO 25K Sensor
  • Battery Life: 60 hrs
  • Buttons: 8, Weight: 80g
  • DPI: 100-25,600
  • Mechanical Button Tensioning System
  • Onboard memory: 5 Profiles
  • Very comfortable and ergonomic design

The Logitech G Pro is our favorite mouse from the gaming peripheral company giant. While many people enjoy the shape of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed mouse, we prefer the uniform mirrored style of the G Pro.

There are two extra programmable buttons on the right side panel and you can make five settings profiles adding plenty of customization for games of all genres.

If you haven’t fallen for the lightweight trend and are looking for a meatier wireless mouse then this might be the one for you.

Razer Naga Pro

Key Features:

  • Connection: Razer Hyperspeed Wireless, Wired or Bluetooth
  • Razer Focus+ Optical Sensor
  • Battery Life: 100 hrs wireless, 150 hrs bluetooth
  • Buttons: 20
  • Weight: 80g
  • DPI: 100-25,600
  • 3 Swappable Side Plates
  • Onboard memory: 5 Profiles
  • Perfect for MMO’s or MOBA’s

While some may say that Razer mice are overrated you can’t deny that the Naga Pro is perfect for MMO and MOBA gamers. Take advantage of the three swappable side plates and five settings profiles adding plenty of button mapping to your heart’s desire. These plates range from the standard two buttons to six or twelve buttons.

Have no fear of your mouse dying in a World of Warcraft raid with its whopping 150 hour battery lifespan if you use it via bluetooth.

Considering Razer’s status in the gaming market you will have to pay a pretty penny for this one.

Budget Friendly Gaming Mice:

Glorious Gaming Model O

Key Features:

  • Connection: USB-C Wired
  • DPI: 400-12,000
  • Battery Life: up to 72 hours
  • BAMF Sensor
  • Weight: 67g (2.4 oz)
  • Ambidextrous Design
  • Buttons: 6
  • Smooth G-Skates Feet
  • Flexible Paracord-like Cable
  • Ultralightweight Design

This is almost exactly like the Model O Wireless listed above. The main difference of course is that it is wired instead with a flexible paracord-like cable. If you have issues with your cable snagging on your desk then consider grabbing their Mouse Bungee.

There is also an additional color option of pink with the Model O.

The price is lower coming in at $50 which is a bargain considering the fantastic build quality and ergonomics. We would recommend this mouse to pretty much anyone!

Steelseries Rival 3

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wired
  • TrueMove Core Optical Sensor
  • Buttons: 6
  • Weight: 77g
  • DPI: 100-8,500
  • Three RGB zones
  • Black ABS Plastic
  • Very Affordable

This mouse might be the best bang for your buck on our list at only $30. The Rival 3 is a fantastic entry level mouse from a reputable company in the gaming peripheral scene.

Despite being a lower end model, the Rival 3 still includes many key features like changing your DPI, RGB and button mapping in the SteelSeries Engine software.

If you aren’t looking for the extra bells and whistles of say their Rival 710 or you are building your first budget gaming PC then this is an easy recommendation.

Razer Deathadder Essential

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wired Braided Cable
  • PixArt PAW3328 Sensor
  • Buttons: 5
  • Weight: 96g
  • DPI: 6,400
  • Mechanical Switch
  • Excellent Entry Level Gaming Mouse

The Deathadder Essential is a classic no frills gaming mouse. If you want to pick a mouse purely off of reputation and popularity then the Deathadder is hard to beat. With minimal research you will find this mouse turning up on most people’s favorites list.

It’s unique shape and minimalist design largely contributed to the Deathadders lasting impression on gamers.

The main downside of this mouse is the low number of programmable buttons. If you don’t care about changing your DPI mid match for instance then the two buttons on the left panel should be enough for most games.

High-End Mechanical Keyboards:

Corsair K70 MK.2

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wired USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 104 Keys
  • 5 Cherry MX Switches Types from quiet to noisy
  • Smooth and Textured Keycaps for an amazing grip
  • Media Controls
  • Detachable Wrist Rest
  • 3 onboard profiles
  • Durable Aluminum Chassis
  • Customizable Color Patterns with iCue Software

Hailing from its well known, flagship predecessor, the MK.2 still upholds the stylish aluminum aesthetic. It also comes paired with a smooth rubber wrist rest that really gives this keyboard that premium experience.

Our favorite features of this keyboard is the metal volume/media roller, the additional usb passthrough port, and that hefty braided cable.

The only thing this keyboard lacks is programmable macro keys; and while it has every other professional aspect, it comes fairly priced at $160.

SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL (Apex Pro for full 104 keys)

Key Features:

  • Weight: 1.7 lbs
  • 94 Keys
  • OmniPoint Adjustable Mechanical Switches
  • Adjust your actuation sensitivity to each individual key
  • Media Controls
  • OLED Smart Display with multiple games and discord functionality
  • Aircraft Grade Aluminum Frame
  • Comfortable Detachable Magnetic Wrist Rest
  • Individually controllable per-key RGB with SteelSeries Engine Software

It might be a year old, but it still is the first keyboard to offer fully adjustable mechanical switches! That eliminates the guessing for finding out which type of switch is best for you.

The Apex Pro’s OLED display and media slider gives this keyboard versatility for both gamers and professionals. This amazing innovation also comes paired with a very sleek and comfortable wrist rest.

Logitech G PRO

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wired Detachable USB
  • 87 Keys
  • 10 Keyless
  • Romer G Switches
  • Media Controls
  • 12 Function Key Macros
  • Disable Keys with Game Mode
  • Sleek and Low Profile
  • Braided Cable

The Logitech Pro is a very compact and minimal Ten-keyless keyboard that gives your desk a professional experience. Its fundamental features are the vibrant RBG keys and its low profile chassis.

The Pro is equipped with hybrid blue switches that give amazing tactile feedback when gaming. In other words, it’s very “clicky”. The pro may only have two additional function keys, but it’s sheer performance puts it with the other high-end keyboards.

Budget Friendly Mechanical Keyboards:

DREVO Calibur 71

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 or USB
  • Battery Life: 20 hrs
  • Weight: 600g
  • 71 Keys
  • Outemu Black/Blue/Brown/Red Switches
  • 7 RBG Lighting Effects
  • Great price for a wireless mechanical keyboard

This is possibly the king of bluetooth keyboards as its device connectivity is next level. If your device has bluetooth, then the Calibur 71 can most likely connect to it. Also, it’s mechanical, so you can now take that professionalism on the go!

The keyboard also boasts a 20 hour battery and customizable RGB. You would think that this is almost too good to be true as it sells for a steal at $60 USD.

HyperX Alloy FPS Pro

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wired Detachable Mini USB Cable
  • Tenkeyless
  • 87 Keys
  • Cherry MX Red, Blue or Brown Switches
  • Solid Steel Frame
  • Game Mode
  • Great price for a no frills entry level mechanical keyboard

If you’re going with a red and black theme, then this is the keyboard for you! While the key backlights are not changeable, the red does great justice on its matte black finished steel frame.

For a budget mechanical keyboard, the Alloy FPS Pro has all of the fundamental features of a high end keyboard.

Havit HV-KB390L

Key Features:

  • Connection: Wired Detachable USB
  • 87 Keys
  • Tenkeyless
  • Kailh PG1350 Low Profile Blue & Red Switches
  • N Key Roller
  • Ice Blue LED lighting
  • Game Mode
  • Our favorite keyboard for fast typing

“How low can you go” – said the keyboard developers, probably. This keyboard flaunts a very elegant low profile design. Paired with streamlined blue switches, the wedge cut chassis makes this keyboard a dream for fast typers.

Complementing the previous HyperX Alloy, the keys come in an unchangeable, vibrant turquoise backlighting. The color might not be changeable, however it comes with a ton of enchanting lighting patterns.

High-End Gaming Headsets:

Steelseries Arctis 7

Key Features:

  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Mobile
  • Connection: 2.4 GHz Wireless
  • 7.1 Surround Sound: DTS Headphone: X v2.0
  • Battery Life: 24 Hours
  • Microphone: Retractable Bidirectional
  • Frequency Response: 100Hz – 10,000Hz
  • Microphone Mute Toggle Button
  • Customize sound profiles per game with SteelSeries Engine

SteelSeries is a tried and true brand in the gaming industry, dominating in the world of PC peripherals for many years. The Arctis 7 is, in our opinion, the best bang for your buck in the realm of high quality wireless headsets.

The ear cups and adjustable headband are quite comfortable but may not be suitable for people with larger heads and ears. By default the surround sound is fantastic but if you still have trouble picking out enemy footsteps then you can make different sound profiles in the free SteelSeries Engine software. The microphone is by no means studio quality but still above average with a convenient retractable wire.

HyperX Cloud Flight S

Key Features:

  • Platforms: PC, PS4
  • Connection: 2.4 GHz Wireless
  • 7.1 Surround Sound
  • Battery Life: 30 Hours
  • Wireless Qi Charging
  • Microphone: Detachable Bi-directional, Noise Canceling
  • Frequency Response: 50Hz-18kHz
  • Microphone Mute Toggle Button
  • HyperX NGENUITY Onboard Controls on left ear cup

The Cloud Flight S is designed with extended gaming sessions in mind. Enjoy countless hours pain free thanks to the comfortable and adjustable memory foam headband and earcups. The headset supports convenient wireless Qi charging as well but unfortunately the base is sold separately.

Our favorite Cloud Flight S feature is the onboard controls on the left ear cup. These controls come in the form of four unobtrusive circular indentations that can be programmed to control just about anything.

In terms of performance, HyperX optimized surround sound with advanced algorithms to work for many games that are designed originally with stereo sound. This could give you the competitive edge in games like Apex Legends, Fortnite or Overwatch.

Victrix Pro AF ANC

Key Features:

  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5
  • Speaker Size: 50mm
  • Connection: Wired, 3.5mm 4-Pole jack
  • 7.1 Surround Sound
  • Battery Life: 30 Hours
  • Microphone: Detachable Bi-directional, Noise Canceling Cobra
  • Frequency Response: 100Hz – 10kHz
  • Microphone Mute Toggle Button
  • Earcup Cooling Mechanism
  • In-Line Controller
  • Premium Comfort
  • Designed for Esports gamers hence the name “Pro AF”

With an emphasis on E-Sports, Victrix has designed the most premium headset on this list. From the comfortable ear cups with a flipout cooling mechanism, to the on point surround sound with a superb noise cancelling feature, you will never miss an enemy footstep again with this headset.

We also enjoy the handy in-line controller which controls the lights, mic gain, volume, active noise cancelling and switching between Euro (balanced all around) and U.S. (increased highs and mids) EQ settings.

Budget Friendly Gaming Headsets:

SteelSeries Arctis 3

Key Features:

  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Switch, Mobile
  • Connection: 4-pole 3.5mm & Dual 3.5mm PC cable
  • 7.1 Surround Sound: Windows Sonic
  • Microphone: Retractable Bidirectional
  • ClearCast Noise Cancelling
  • Frequency Response: 100Hz – 10,000Hz
  • Microphone Mute Toggle Button
  • Virtually the same quality as the Arctis 7 but at a much lower price

SteelSeries comes in first again for our favorite budget gaming headset. The Arctis 3 is nearly identical to the Arctis 7 in specs but at a lower price point and uses a wired 3.5mm connection.

The flexible headband and large plush ear cups are comfortable enough for all day gaming sessions.

You have similar customization options as the higher Arctis models but since this one doesn’t use a USB connection you will need to spend extra time setting it up via registering your product on their website. Overall this headset performs great on all devices for a much cheaper price than the Arctis 7.

Corsair HS50 Pro, HS60 for surround sound

Key Features:

  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Switch, Mobile
  • Connection: Wired, 3.5mm analog
  • Stereo
  • Microphone: Unidirectional Noise Cancelling
  • ClearCast Noise Cancelling
  • Frequency Response: 100Hz – 10,000Hz
  • Microphone Mute Toggle Button

The Corsair HS50 is a straightforward stereo headset that checks all of the boxes for a premium feeling budget gaming headset. This headset has a polished build quality with memory foam ear cups and a sturdy metal headband.

The performance is surprisingly great as well with vibrant atmospheric sounds in Breath of the Wild on the Switch to enemies holstering their weapon in Escape from Tarkov. You might not want to record your next hit single on the detachable microphone but it is discord certified and includes decent noise cancelling.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wireless

Key Features:

  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5
  • Connection: 2.4 GHz Wireless
  • Battery Life: 17 Hours
  • 7.1 Surround Sound
  • Microphone: Unidirectional Noise Cancelling
  • Frequency Response: 50Hz-18,000 Hz
  • Swivel to mute microphone
  • Lightweight and comfortable

The Cloud Stinger Core is an excellent choice if you want an entry level wireless headset. Connecting the headset is seamless and lasts a solid 17 hours long.

The build quality uses less preferable plastic but the slick black design looks great with the clean HyperX logo on top.

Unfortunately this device lacks basic EQ customization in the NGENUITY software which may detour people that enjoy making sound profiles for different games. Fortunately the sound performance works great right out of the gate in gaming and music listening alike.

Hopefully this list helps you narrow things down for your 2020 gaming wish lists! We would love to hear your favorite peripheral for each of these categories in the comments below as well as any suggestions for future product reviews.
